As a result, we have produced this guide to everything you should know about maintenance for motion lighting in the Autumn months.

What does motion lighting maintenance involve?

Depending on your motion lighting system in place, and whether this is installed inside or outside, the maintenance tasks will undoubtedly differ. However, they do generally involve the following three aspects:

  • Sensitivity testing- motion lighting needs to be activated whenever motion is detected. However, it can become too sensitive, and turn on for almost no reason, or it can become not sensitive enough, not switching on when necessary. So to help keep your property safe, and the people using your property, you will need to reset the sensitivity, and test this.
  • Cleaning- this is particularly important for exterior motion lighting, as the sensor is more likely to become blocked by debris, dirt or leaves. However, it is a good idea to also clean the light casing on interior motion lighting as well, to help maintain high levels of quality, comfortable light.
  • Movement testing- for motion tracking lighting, it’s important to keep the mechanics in good condition and ready to use.

Why is Autumn a good time for motion lighting maintenance?

in the Autumn, electrical maintenance and specifically motion lighting or even security lighting maintenance is a good idea. This is because the nights start to get darker earlier, and as such, your motion lighting, especially outside, will be needed more frequently. Inside, the quality of the natural light deteriorates at this time of year, and so again the motion lighting becomes more important.
