What is high bay LED lighting?
High bay lighting is a common lighting fixture, found in a variety of sectors where there is a large open space with relatively high ceilings. This can include factories, warehouses and even sports halls and leisure centres.
High bays, in general, are specially designed to be used in high areas, usually above 8m. And they need to be able to provide and distribute light evenly and consistently across the space below. As a result, a lot of attention is put into the reflectors and optics that are used by the fitting itself, in order to reflect and direct the light down onto the surface below, in a uniform way.
In addition, for warehouses and other industrial settings, it can be important for the high bay lighting to also illuminate vertical surfaces, so that items on a shelf can be seen and withdrawn correctly.
However, these high bay lights often use high intensity discharge lighting, such as metal halide. And this is not ideal. In fact, for each of these purposes LED lighting can be the perfect choice. And high bay LED lighting can offer a range of benefits.
The benefits of high bay LED lighting
Using LED lights for high bay fixtures can have a range of benefits. These can include:
- energy savings- LED lights use a lot less electricity than metal halide lights. This means that by installing LED’s, you could save money on your energy bills. In fact, you could be looking at a 40-60% decrease in your energy consumption. Which is a huge amount of savings.
- less maintenance-LED lights have a long life span, so you wont have to change the bulbs or invest in maintenance as often as you will with other light sources.
- lighting performance- LED lights are reliable and extremely high performing
